Clear film can be used on all windows (except the front windscreen).  The Cancer Council Endorsed UV Clear film is the perfect solution for those who do not want a coloured film but want to achieve protection against harmful UV rays.  UV Clear has been independently tested by ARPANSA and is rated at UPF 50+ which is the highest possible UPF rating.  All window films improve safety in that if the window is broken, the film will help hold glass fragments together.
HYDRO interior protection is specially formulated to protect and preserve leather surfaces such as seats, door trims, dash and console areas.  The coating is a permanent solution to preventing UV induced fading & discolouration, cracking & splitting as well as excellent stain resistance to food & drink spills. Simply wipe the coated areas with a damp cloth.
Most off-the-shelf products are in fact maintenance products, not a permanent treatment.  They are designed to be applied and then reapplied after repeated use and/or cleaning.  These products usually offer short term protection against food and drink spills.  HYDRO is a permanent sealer that bonds with the surface and requires no reapplication for the lifetime of ownership of the vehicle.
Early paint protection products were predominately used to prevent UV damage and protect against fading and discolouration of the paintwork. Some improvements were made to these early formulas which also offered some protection from corrosive substances such as bird droppings and tree sap, however these formulas all had one thing in common; the abrasion caused by dirt & road grime combined with extended UV exposure would cause these products to break down. Most also required regular rejuvenation using special washing agents. In today’s world, consumers expect far more from a paint protection product than purely just locking in shine or protecting against paint fading and discolouration.  Ceramics deliver outstanding protection, hardness and durability.  HYDRO Paint Coating out-performs many other coatings due to the combination of ceramics in the formula - Silicon Dioxide (also referred to as a traditional ceramic) and Silicon Carbide (which is classified as an advanced ceramic). Ceramics have extreme heat tolerance and do not break down when exposed to the abrasion caused by dirt and road grime.  Protektiv HYDRO delivers outstanding protection against a wide range of environmental contaminates including bird & bat droppings, tree sap, bore water etching & rail dust as well as preventing UV induced oxidisation and loss of gloss. HYDRO ceramic coating is backed by the MotorOne nationwide lifetime warranty, and also offers a limited (6 year) warranty against clear coat delamination. Warranty terms, conditions & exclusions apply.
No. Films cannot be applied to the windscreen, however, the good news is that the windscreen on all new vehicles is made from laminated glass. Laminated glass delivers very high UV protection - it blocks out the majority of both UVA and UVB rays.
Clear film is often applied over privacy glass. Given that privacy glass is usually quite dark (and may have a measured VLT as low as 20-25%) it is not legal to apply a coloured film over this. Application of a clear film can deliver the maximum protection against harmful UVA and UVB rays. The MotorOne Cancer Council UV clear film has been rated by ARPANSA as having the highest possible rating - UPF 50+. Clear films also improve safety in that if the glass is broken, the film will help hold glass fragments rather than showering inside the vehicle. Clear film can also be applied to the glass of any vehicle where the driver does not want to use a coloured film.
Yes. The range of Cancer Council Endorsed Window Films differ in a number of ways:
  1. Optical Clarity: all films in the range feature outstanding optical clarity.
  2. Independent Testing: All films have been tested by the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA) and have received the highest possible UPF rating of 50+.
  3. Cancer Council Window Films are fully endorsed: More importantly, each film sold generates a contribution by MotorOne to Cancer Council to help fund the continuing important work done in relation to research, treatment options, social care programs, education and patient support. To date, through the sales of Cancer Council Endorsed Window Films, MotorOne has contributed over $5 million to Cancer Council Australia.
In Australia (and many other countries) there are state laws that require a minimum amount of (filtered) light must enter through glass. This is referred to as VLT or visual light transmitted. There are also restrictions where tint can be applied and no film of any type (including clear film) can be applied to the front windscreen (however the laminated windscreen provides very high UV protection properties).  The front driver/passenger windows must have a nett VLT of no less than 35%.  What this means is that when the film is applied over the factory fitted glass, the light transmitted will be at least 35%.  When the glass has been tinted, the (visual) result can vary from one vehicle to another.  This is due to a number of things – colour of the paint, colour of the interior of the vehicle and also the colour of the window film.  Whilst most coloured films measure as 35% some appear darker than others and this is created by using darker pigments during the manufacturing process. The MotorOne Street brands Legal or our Cancer Council endorsed Dark Night are both films with a darker appearance.  These are often recommended where there is factory fitted privacy glass on the rear windows as the darker colour compliments the privacy glass.  Privacy glass is quite dark in terms of the measured VLT and may be as dark as 20 – 25%, therefore it is not legal to apply a coloured film over this area.  The best solution to achieve the maximum UV protection and improve safety, is to apply a clear film (Cancer Council UV Clear) over the privacy glass.
Use a good quality cloth or chamois and warm water. Window cleaners can be used, provided the cleaning agent does not contain any ammonia. Ammonia in the cleaner will burn the film and leave what appears to be a permanent streak.
This is quite normal. High performance window films need to fully cure and (and any moisture evaporate) before maximum optical clarity is achieved. Curing time varies and is dependent on temperature and humidity. In cooler climates window films can take up to 14 days to fully cure.
Essentially, ceramic coatings will enhance the colour and shine of your paintwork. Visually, results will vary and this is dependent on the colour and type of paint. The coating takes around 3 days to fully cure. Once curing is completed, the coating will achieve maximum gloss and protection.
Maintenance is quick and easy. Simply hand wash the vehicle using the HYDRO carwash shampoo (or any pH neutral car wash) and chamois dry. We recommend always washing the vehicle in the shade when the metal is cool. Avoid using commercial car washes, which often dispense strong detergents which may contain solvents.
Protektiv HYDRO is a new generation ceramic paint coating. Unlike traditional paint protection products which can break down over time, the combination of traditional and advanced ceramics in this formula deliver a coating that outlasts and out performs many other ceramic paint coatings. HYDRO coating contains both Silicon Dioxide and Silicon Carbide. Silicon Dioxide creates gloss, shine and protects against environmental damage and UV, and Silicon Carbide creates hardness and durability. HYDRO is backed by the MotorOne lifetime warranty.
RELOAD is not just a paint protection product – it includes a rejuvenation of the paintwork prior to application of the RELOAD formula.  This needs to be carried out by qualified trained technicians.  Maintenance is easy; the product eliminates the need to wax or polish.   Simply hand wash using the RELOAD shampoo.
There are a number of ways you can protect older vehicles.  The RELOAD Paint Protection product is an enhanced resin formula which helps rejuvenate shine and protect against the damage caused by bird droppings and tree sap.  Another way to protect older vehicles (up to 10 years old) is our HYDRO Pre-Owned program.  Why not take advantage of the latest in ceramic paint coatings and protect your paintwork against UV induced discolouration & fading as well as a wide range of damaging environmental contaminates.  Our complete HYDRO Pre-Owned program also includes protection for interior surfaces including leather, vinyl, carpet & fabric.  Vehicles are subject to inspection prior to application.  The HYDRO Pre-Owned warranty is a pro-rata warranty up to 10 years old.
The construction of window films can vary.  The most common type of window film is what is referred to as a ‘metalised film’.  This type of film has been used for some time as it provides very good heat rejection properties, however, metalised films are a known cause for what is known as electromagnetic interference (EMI).  This can sometimes cause issues with mobile phones, GPS and other electronic devices.  The best solution is to apply a ceramic window film such as the MotorOne Protektiv Ceramic tint. Our Ceramic film does not contribute to EMI, has the highest measured total solar energy rejected (TSER), offers exceptional optical clarity and is the most durable film in our range.
Sunscreens and lotions are usually measured using Sun Protection Factor (or SPF). Items such as shade sails, umbrellas and some clothing (and window films) can be marketed showing Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF).  In order to market any product that displays a UPF rating, the product must have undergone testing with ARPANSA.  Cancer Council is a premium window film that has been tested with a result of UPF 50+ which is the highest possible rating available.
Window films are often described as being 'environmentally friendly'. There are a number of reasons why this is so. The patented manufacturing process minimises impact on our environment. High Performance Films provide excellent heat rejection which means that the air conditioner in the vehicle works more efficiently, therefore contributing to improved fuel efficiency – all important considerations for our fragile environment.
Yes – all glass has some protection against UV. The rejection of UVB is in most cases far greater than UVA – you may be exposed to up to double the amount UVA when driving. Given that both UVA and UVB have been proven to be harmful and contribute to skin cancers, it is important to ensure adequate protection from both types of UV (which is why we use broad spectrum sunscreens). Installation of a high performance window film will protect against prolonged exposure to both UVA and UVB.
Many off-the-shelf products contain significant amounts of silicone, which can cause the surface to become slippery and contribute to what is referred to as ‘vinyl sweating’.  This causes the sticky residue and leaves the surface shiny.  When the surface becomes shiny, it can contribute to reflection and glare, particularly around the dash and console areas. MotorOne HYDRO interior protection is a silicone-free formula.
MotorOne Protektiv HYDRO Interior Coating will protect and preserve the natural beauty of leather.  Powerful UV inhibitors prevent surface dehydration which can lead to cracking & splitting, and the coating prevents staining from common food & drink spills, makeup and sunscreen.  Unlike off-the-shelf products no reapplication is required and maintenance is simple – just wipe over with a damp cloth.
Fogging on interior glass is a common problem if a silicone-based product has been applied to leather or vinyl.  This is caused by exposure to heat which causes the silicone to vaporise. This then causes a sticky, difficult to remove residue or ‘fog’ on the glass.  HYDRO interior coating does not contain silicone and will not contribute to fogging on glass.
There are no solvents in the Protektiv HYDRO Interior Coating, making it safer for the occupants of the vehicle as well as being much kinder to our fragile environment.
Yes, Protektiv HYDRO not only protects against permanent staining on all treated interior surfaces, the powerful formula also prevents mould & mildew (which can be a trigger for some respiratory illnesses such as asthma).  Bacteria can also contribute to odours; Protektiv HYDRO helps prevent bacteria on the treated surface.
Take-home products could more accurately be described as a 'maintenance program'. As most are only surface sprays and do not completely coat the fibres, they require constant checking for repellency and reapplication on a regular basis. Our High Performance Fabric & Carpet Protection is a once-off permanent solution to protection against staining from common food and drink spills.
Hydrophobic simply means a surface repels water. Hydrophobic coatings are extensively used globally on a wide range of surfaces including glass, stainless steel and even in medical applications (to coat surgical instruments).  In simple terms when a surface has hydrophobic properties, water will tend to sheet or roll off the surface which can help take away dirt, dust and grime.  Maintenance is significantly reduced as the coating reduces the adhesion of contaminates making washing easier.  Maximum performance is achieved once the HYDRO coating is fully cured.  This depends on exposure to UV which is the catalyst for the curing process and would usually take around 3 days after application.
The good news is that once the HYDRO Paint Coating has been applied there is no need to wax or polish.  Simply hand wash using a pH neutral car wash.
This is actually quite correct. During the 1980’s and until the end of the 90’s many formulas contained silicone.  This is no longer commonly used as silicone-based formulas were often referred to as ‘a panel beater’s nightmare’.  Silicone is a synthetic rubber which is widely used in many industries and products today including plumbing (as a water sealant) and building/construction.  When used in paint protection it can cause problems if there is a need to repair and repaint any damaged panels on the vehicle.  This is because the silicone permeates into the porous surface of the paintwork and unless completely removed prior to repair, paint won’t stick to the substrate and will ‘ball’.  Most reputable brands replaced the silicone with a fluoropolymer (for example Teflon) which eliminated this problem, however the abrasion caused by dirt and road grime caused the protection to break down over time and require reapplication.  The HYDRO ceramic formula contains no silicone or fluoropolymers and because the coating has abrasion resistant properties, will not require reapplication for the lifetime of ownership of the vehicle.
Nanotechnology, put simply, is the “science of small”. A nano sized particle = 1b metre! We engineer our coatings using nanotechnology.  What this means for you is a smoother surface and superior coverage.
In general terms, paint sealants provide a barrier against UV, dirt & road grime; more recent formulas were enhanced to reduce the damage caused by bird droppings & tree sap.  However, traditional paint sealants will break down over time and most require reapplication.  MotorOne Protektiv HYDRO Paint Coating is a combination of traditional and advanced ceramics that requires no reapplication and is highly resistant to the abrasion caused by dirt & road grime.  This provides a permanent solution to protection against not just UV but a wide range of damaging environmental contaminates including bird & bat droppings, tree sap, bug splatter & fallen leaves, sunscreen,  rail dust & bore water etching.
HYDRO interior protection is an environmentally friendly water-based formula which contains no harmful solvents.  Our co-polymer formula not only creates excellent stain resistance, it also offers protection against harmful bacteria, mould and mildew.
There are a number of products available at supermarkets and auto stores that are DIY. These products are usually an aerosol spray or wipe on product.  When applied to an area such as carpets or soft fabrics, these products seal the surface and provide some protection against spills and stains.  However, these products will wear off as a result of friction caused by everyday usage, and if a spill occurs and the surface is cleaned, the product requires reapplication.  Protektiv HYDRO Interior Coating offers a permanent solution with no reapplication required, and it eliminates the need to use any additional cleaning products.
Silicone is a synthetic polymer and is generally a liquid or rubberlike plastic. It is widely used in plumbing and building/construction, however it is used in other sealants, used to make kitchen utensils, and a common ingredient in personal care products such as shampoo, makeup and shaving creams.  It is no longer used in most paint protection products. Silicon is a naturally occurring chemical element.  It can be found in various forms which would include Silicon Dioxide.  Silicon Dioxide is found as quartz and silica (sand), and is the second most abundant element on the earth’s crust (after oxygen).  Silicon Dioxide is one of the ingredients in the HYDRO formula as is Silicon Carbide (also known as carborundum).
The HYDRO high performance formula is a combination of traditional and advanced ceramics which deliver outstanding protection and durability.  Silicon Dioxide (found as silica and the main ingredient in the manufacture of glass & crystalware) helps lock in gloss & shine and enhance the colour of the paintwork, protect against UV and a wide range of damaging environmental contaminates.  Silicon Carbide creates durability & hardness which means the coating is not broken down by the abrasion caused by dirt & road grime.  Silicon Carbide (Carborundum) is rated as a 9H on the globally accepted MOHS hardness scale.
